Description:

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing for District 75 supervises, assigns, schedules, directs and evaluates the work performance of Staff Nurses in the New York City School System. Performs related work.

 

Reports to: District 75 Director of Nursing, Citywide

 

Direct Reports: District 75 Nursing Staff

 

Key Relationships: Collaborates with Nurses in the development of written goals and objectives for services to students. Maintains an ongoing dialogue with principals and site supervisors to coordinate the provision of Nursing and Health Services.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Visit schools to supervise health services provided by school nurses, to observe students, review student records and make nursing recommendations to ensure the appropriate delivery of health services.
  • Assist in the establishment of caseloads for nursing and health services provided by the Office of School Health.
  • Present demonstration lessons and activities for staff to enhance student achievement and independence.
  • Coordinate in-service training and other professional training for nurses to further their professional growth.
  • Assist nurses in planning and training parents/guardians for the implementation of home care programs.
  • Train Committees on Special Education staff, principals, teachers and other school personnel, parents/guardians, etc. to understand the role and responsibilities of the Nurse in an educational setting.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, parent meetings and impartial hearings related to the delivery of health services.

 

Qualification Requirements:

 

Minimum

 

A valid New York State Registered Professional Nurse License.

 

Special Note:

 

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Registered Professional Nurse, including at least two years satisfactory experience in a supervisory capacity or a satisfactory equivalent to a supervisory capacity.

 

Preferred

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

 

Salary: $105,303

 

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
