Position Summary: The Student Voice initiative advances authentic student participation in decision making across New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) by cultivating youth leadership, strengthening youth/adult partnerships, and building organizational capacity for meaningful student engagement. Student Voice is a portfolio of interconnected initiatives that support students, educators and system leaders in embedding authentic student voice practices across school, district, and central offices.
The Student Voice initiative includes three primary areas of work. First, it is student leadership that includes designing and leading student leadership programs that develop young people's capacity to influence policy and practice within supportive, inclusive learning communities. Secondly, it is professional learning aimed at designing and facilitating learning experiences that strengthen educators' and leaders' capacity to engage students as authentic partners in decision making. Thirdly, systems capacity building involves developing resources, partnerships, and cross divisional strategies that embed equitable, sustainable student voice practices across NYCPS.
The Student Voice Coordinator reports to the Student Voice Manager as an integral member of the OSPP team aimed at advancing student leadership and advocacy, youth/adult partnership, and authentic student participation in decision making across NYCPS. Under general direction, the Student Voice Coordinator, with considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment, performs responsible work as it relates to the design, implementation, and growth of citywide student voice initiatives. In collaboration with the Student Voice Manager, manages youth training and adult professional learning, resource development to increase a system wide impact. The Student Voice Coordinator supports capacity building of an emergent initiative by engaging with multiple stakeholders: students, educators, district leaders, policy teams, central leadership, and community partners. Performs related work.
Reports to: Student Voice Manager
Key Relationships: Works across divisions to identify and establish opportunities for youth/adult partnerships throughout the NYCPS. Maintains regular contact with key external stakeholders, including youth led organizations, advocates, and local community based organizations, to identify areas of collaboration.

Salary: $82,000 - $86,000
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
