This position is in a civil service competitive class that is subject to examination. Position is only open to current NYC employees with permanent NYC civil service status as Special Officer or current NYC employees who are permanent in an equivalent title that is eligible for transfer under 6.1.9 to Special Officer or candidates who have taken the most recent Special Officer civil service examination. | Description: |
Position Summary: Reporting to the Supervising Safety Officer, the Special Officer performs duties to provide physical security, safety, loss prevention, and maintenance of order, in accordance with policies and procedures throughout the New York City Public Schools (NYCPS). The Special Officer is primarily assigned to provide security in NYCPS Administrative office buildings. This includes working collaboratively with intergovernmental agencies and other divisions within the NYCPS. Performs related work.
Reports to: Supervising Safety Officer
Direct Reports: N/A
Key Relationships: Works closely with staff within the Office of Safety and Youth Development (OSYD), various City and State agencies, including the New York City Police Department (NYPD) as well as families and students.
Responsibilities
Qualification Requirements:
Minimum
1. A four‐year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a stateʹs department of education or a recognized accrediting organization; and 2. Individuals serving in this title are designated as Peace Officers by the New York State Criminal Procedure Law. Therefore, all candidates must be qualified to serve as Peace Officers. Incumbents must satisfy the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officers and obtain certification. Once obtained, this certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.
License Requirement for Certain Positions A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York is required for appointment to positions in certain agencies. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of employment. Preferred
Salary: $39,206 (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
