Description:

Position Summary: The Office of School Health (OSH) is a combined program of the New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). OSH aims to promote health and provide quality, inclusive health services to students registered in the New York City school system. The OSH nursing program is comprised of Registered Nurses as school staff, Nursing Supervisors, Borough Nurse Directors (BNDs), Public Health Advisors/Assistants and administrative personnel to provide direct care staffing and care coordination. DOHMH and NYCPS personnel fulfill most titles. The OSH central nursing office provides managerial support and policy design for clinical practice and training, staffing, professional development, communicable disease concerns, public health initiatives, administrative, and technical functions within the schools’ geographical regions across New York City. 

 

OSH assigns permanent staff to serve as school nurses and staff vacancies by working with NYCPS contracted nursing agencies to provide vendor nurses. OSH also requests vendor nurses for students requiring

individualized 1:1 nursing service for school and school sponsored activities as recommended on their Individual Education Plan (IEP). 

                      

Reports to: Assistant Director of Nursing

 

Direct Reports: N/A

 

Key Relationships: Collaborates with Assistant Nursing Director, Approved Contract Nursing Agencies, other members of the nursing unit, and OSH staff. Maintains professional collaborative relationships with principals, site supervisors, parents, school community, and Health Directors to coordinate the provision of specialized nursing services to students in New York City.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Assist in coordinating with the team to support the development of training content for contract nurse vendors.
  • Help facilitate training sessions for contract agency supervisors and assist with training agency nurses.
  • Gather and maintain Contract Agency Nurse concerns, and all related data as per unit process.
  • Assist in maintaining records and tracking agency nurse performances in shared drive.
  • Assist in scheduling and organizing ASHR training in collaboration with the IT department.
  • Observation of contract agency nurse trainings sessions as designated by the supervisors to ensure adherence to established training protocols. 

 

Qualification Requirements:

 

Minimum:

 

A valid New York State Registered Professional Nurse License.

 

Preferred

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

 

Salary: $75,897

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
