Within the context of this vision, the Office of Student Pathways focuses on the alignment of school curriculum, instruction, and operations to ensure that all students graduate with real world skills and experience, a head start on life after high school, and a strong plan to put them on a path to a rewarding career and long-term economic security.

 

The Associate Director of Data Integration works in close coordination with the Division of Instructional and Information Technology (DIIT), the Office of Student Pathways (Pathways) program teams, and external third-party vendors to design, implement, and maintain data integration solutions, including a focus on data validation, audit, reconciliation, and documentation. This role involves analyzing data requirements, designing integration processes, and ensuring that data is accurately and efficiently transferred across systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data integration tools. Performs related work.

 

Reports to: Senior Director, Data Strategy, Student Pathways

 

Direct Reports: Analyst, Citywide Data

 

Key Relationships: Works closely with Pathways leadership and related offices within NYCPS, including the Superintendents, Division of Financial Operations, DIIT, Division of School Facilities, other relevant central NYCPS Offices; other City Agencies, including the Department of Youth and Community Development and Department of Small Business Services; the Mayor’s Center for Youth Employment, the Chair and Committee Chairs of the CTE Advisory Council, and the Chairs of the Industry Commissions. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Proactively monitor integration processes, identify discrepancies through reconciliation, and resolve issues to maintain data integrity, quality and accuracy.
  • Develop and implement data integration solutions that ensure the seamless flow of data between different systems and databases.  
  • Collaborate with software developers, database administrators, and business analysts to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications. 
  • Maintain data mapping documents and integration workflows to ensure proper documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Monitor data integration processes and perform troubleshooting to resolve any issues. 
  • Support development and execution of roadmap to systemize data flows and reporting for key pathways program areas.
  • Guide the streamlining and automation of ad-hoc and standardized reporting functions.
  • Ensure integration processes comply with data governance and security policies.    
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including DIIT, business units, and external vendors and partners to ensure data integration aligns with business goals.  
  • Optimize data integration processes to improve performance, reduce processing time, and enhance system efficiency.

 

Qualification Requirements:

 

Minimum

 

  1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in "1" above

 

Preferred

 

  • Must have 5 to 7 years of Business Intelligence experience such as IBM Cognos Studio, SAP Business Objects, Tableau Cloud, Tableau Workbook Tableau Flow and Power BI. 
  • Must have experience in using Relations Databases, MS SQL Server database, Oracle database, or Snowflake database. 
  • Strong knowledge of Data Warehouse and ETL tools such as Snowflake, Informatica and Tableau Flow, and able to write back on database such as Snowflake. 
  • Strong communications skills and confidently able to convey ideas to the team and colleagues. 
  • Strong ability to translate complex data concepts and technical information to business stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work in fast-changing environments and adapt to new tools, technologies, and integration approaches. 
  • Willingness to stay up to date with emerging technologies and methodologies in data integration and management. 
  • Excellent communication skills to work across IT, data, and business teams. 
  • Experience in SQL language using complex queries, multiple sources, adding, updating, and deleting data, and strongly be able to perform data comparison. 
  • Experience in financial reporting, preferably in public education.  

 

Salary: $109,330 - $120,000 

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
