This position is in a civil service competitive class that is subject to examination. If you do not already have permanent NYC civil service status as School Computer Technology Specialist, you will have to file to take the Civil Service Exam when it is offer. The filing period for the exam is 04/05/2023 - 04/25/2023. Information regarding NYC civil service exams can be found on the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) website. This position is open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a program. Description:

Position Summary:  The School Computer Technology Specialist works at the elementary school level with staff and students at the Mohegan School. This position encompasses computer work in an educational environment under the day-to-day supervision of a school principal, related to the instructional and administrative information systems located within a school in the areas of computer maintenance and repair, mainframe, server and/or mini-computer operations, software, technical support, inventory and training.  Performs related work.

 

Reports to: Principal, Assistant Principal

 

Key Relationships: Office staff, attendance data support personnel, principal, assistant principals, faculty, program and attendance chair, data specialist, and parent/guardians.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Provides technical expertise to maintain electronic devices currently in the building including computers, serves, printers, scanners, and data projectors.
  • Resolves issues or problems that teachers and students have with computer hardware, and printer or software applications in technology classes.
  • Determines causes of computer malfunctions by observation in classrooms, including labs, and by use of diagnostic tools and stateoftheart test instruments and equipment. Replaces faulty equipment and/or component parts.
  • Resolves issues with all other electronic devices in the school building.
  • Runs daily attendance on the ATS system.
  • Programs School Messenger system to call absentees’ homes.
  • Initiates tickets to the central help desk for hardware problems and assists support personnel with resolution of problems at the school level.
  • Utilizes STARS (formerly HSST) program to make program changes, prints transcripts, enters grade changes and programs schedules.
  • Handles requests for files or documents; maintains files for all completed work assignments.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  1. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory fulltime experience in computer maintenance or repair, mainframe, server and/or mini computer operations, software or technical support; or
  2. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above. However, all candidates must have a fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent. Education above the high school level may be substituted for experience described in “1” above at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 6 semester credits in mainframe, server and/or mini computer operations or a computer related field of study, for six months of experience. Graduation from an approved technical school with at least 450 hours in a specialization in mainframe, server or mini computer operations or a certified technical training program in computer maintenance and repair may be substituted for up to three months of the experience described in “1” above.

 

Preferred

 

  • Experience with PC computers and Mac, servers, printers and scanners.
  • Ability to develop excellent interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrates positive and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent record of attendance and punctuality.

 

 

Salary

$40,993 (New Hire Rate)

$46,819 - $53,061 (Incumbent - 2 years of full-time continuous City service)

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
